How do I remove an ex relationship?

Gustavo Berlim
asked this on December 06, 2011 02:11 AM

I tried going to the relationship tab on my profile-edit page, waited for the list to populate and checked the box to remove. Got the following message: " Warning: Removing these connections will split the tree. " and the remove button greyed out.

I hope someone can help me remove this short and childless previous relationship from my tree. Thanks

The question is: Is there children involved?
If so in respect of them you should let them keep both parents, but you can hide her from your own profile by clicking edit in the Immediate Family section of your own profile.

If not, you can send a message to a curator like me and ask for help to cut the connection, just make sure to tell which connectedion: Bjørn P. Brox

Gustavo Berlim,

The split has been successful. Please log into your profile and review your family tree to make sure all updates are correct.

Gustavo Berlim,

If you are trying to separate your tree it would require you to split your family tree which is a Pro feature. I would be more then happy to look into your account and make the needed split since it is a childless relationship.

I thought that any relationship concearns two people and if one does not want that showing on his tree, should be able to remove that and leave the ex with her tree and relatives intact. I regret having once added the relationship, because whenever I want to show anything to my fiance the ex will be there, linked to me...

Suggest - go to Tree View.   Look at the profile for this "ex"  - is there a little "x' in the right-hand corner?  If so, click on it and that person will be deleted (please, only do if you are the manager or have the manager's agreement - - thus maintaining peace, good will, etc.).   If there is no "x" then there is someone else connected to and depending on the 'ex" who will need to be removed before the "ex" can be removed - again, play nice - if ex's parents and/or many other relatives are entered,  they may want to continue to see this relationship.
