I merged two profiles which turned out to be a mistake. Now I have people not related on our family tree. It wouldn't let me fix the problem and tells me that it would split the tree which is what I really want to do. How do I fix this?
Thanks David
UPDATE - through the wonderful help of the GENI users, my problem is now fixed!!!

I have merged a profile of someone who is not related to me in error. My parents were NN and Martha Dorothea Hildebrand Saayman. I would like Geni management to please remove the incorrect parents and restore my correct parents.

Miya you need to give more details and probably best if you address the 'Attention Curators" Public discussion here:

DAVID EMERLING,
How do you fix your tree?
OK in my situation I am adopted, so I started a seperate tree for myself and my biological parents... and I accidentally told Geni to merge MY two profiles... and now I have all kinds of conflicts because of 4 different parents showing up. How do I un-merge myself?
some one merge my tree without permission i got a request to merge begging me to merge i declined two days later that person was in my tree changing names and info on my tree now his crap is in my family tree i don't even know who he is or care to i was not in search of more family just a way for the family to see our info , i emailed them angryly and now find myself with no way to edit my family tree ! then i attemted to erase my info and got jason wills saying i messed it up for everybody in big tree and i should close my profile yeah right idiot i did not want to be part of the big tree and and if u get a request from ric dickinson quickly block him he will do alot of damage , i guess that what u get when u buy geni pro a way to really mess up peoples work ! thanks geni , i am very disappointed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Alistair the question has been answered. If you still can't do it by yourself then we need profile urls (top of the screen http://.............) Send these with who should be where on the tree to http://www.geni.com/discussions/80793 and the curators will do all they can to help.
Help help help My cousin Anouska Sammy Linked our family trees together and the side im not related to shows up on my side and it show my father as someone else my Grandmother as my Grandfather I need to know how to unmerge our groups thanks
Two answers have been given to this problem and both will work.
1. edit profile, relationships, scroll down to wrong set of parents and tick 'remove' box and then click 'remove' and then save
2. if you don't feel happy doing this yourself send the url of the profile and a description of how the tree should look when corrected to http://www.geni.com/discussions/80793
I have this problem in my tree, too. Tons of profiles suddenly appeared in one part of my family tree (the Honeycutt/Huneycutt line), that are very inaccurate for the profiles that are listed (one woman suddenly has four husbands and about 20 children all with different, inconsistent last names, and many of them have 3 or 4 spouses who are suddenly listed too). What's more, I don't believe this is even the correct line for my family. I have tried to work with the lower profiles but my tree won't let me split off the mess from others' additions and edits. Anyway, advice or help would be much appreciated!
Scott Glover, I can see that the tree around the Richards is still somewhat chaotic but I can also see that some curators have been busy in the area. I have a few days off so perhaps I'll look at this area too. Would you like to post any specific profiles you are concerned about (the url shortcuts not just their names)? It may seem unbelievable to you that anybody would spend hours fixing stuff like this but we curators all do! (it's five minutes to midnight for me right now and look what I'm doing)
I fixed the Merged parents in error more than a year ago, and I can explain how to do it. The problem is, now the error is Back! Someone put it in again (Someone who can't seem to realize that Richard I was the GRANDFATHER of Richard III, not the father).
I worked hard to research this info, now my tree is very badly messed up. I didn't give anyone permission to undo all my hard work.
What do you say to that, GENI? My tree now has over 100,000 people in it! At least half of them are duplicates, triplicates, etc. Who is going to spend hours fixing all that stuff? 4 people right beside each other with the exact same name, exact same husband, exact same birth and death, and same census address? Come on!!! Some one from GENI needs to contact me ASAP!
Thanks everyone for your help. The tree is now fixed!!
This http://www.geni.com/people/Sarah-Ardov/6000000003584219216 profile has two pairs of parents. Geni writes, that detach of one pair will split the tree and not permit to do so. Can the problem be solved?
Go to the profile you want to remove. Edit the profile on relationship(on the right of Basics). Click the parents down-arrow to change to other couple. Tick on Remove (current )Parents. Click Save & Close. Go to Tree then remove the unwanted node.
I just posted it as you suggested and I am crossing my fingers! Thanks
David, that is what you want to do, split the bad merge out of your tree.
Try posting the profile links with a description of what has happened and how it should be to http://www.geni.com/discussions/80793
and the curators will help if they can or explain why they can't if they can't.
Me too! This has been on going since October and I want this fixed! When can I get some results?
