I recently discovered that my deceased cousin had a daughter out of wedlock. I entered his daughter's information, then to the daughter added her mother, but then Geni automatically created a Husband/Wife relationship between my cousin and the daughter's mother. They have never been married and he didn't even know she was born when he was alive. Any help here? What's the best way to indicate this relationship?

Jeff, Geni Curator Go the relationship tab on the mother or your cousin, change the status from spouse to ex-partner.

Shaya Klechevsky Thanks so much for your answer!!
That said.....
It was literally a one night stand...I think "ex-partner" might be a bit too ambitious LOL no? I mean...why does there have to be ANY relationship between the parents?
In this case, it's a little silly...but how does one go about indicating a sperm/egg donor relationship? Partner is certainly not the right designation here....
Or what it, G-d forbid, the child is a result of rape? Both biological parents may be known, but I think referring to that "union" as a partnership is a gross misrepresentation.....
Any other options? -
Jeff, Geni Curator No sorry - I think these relationships are defined by the Genealogical standards body, so that formats like GEDCOM work properly when imported by other applications. Partner can also just mean sexual partner, which could be a one time thing.

Shaya Klechevsky I guess that makes sense...thanks for the insight...I guess the Genealogical Standards body/GEDCOM should probably update for new complicated types of relationships....
