Sowjanya Vellore I have accidentally merged my profiles and my main profile shows as created by my husband’s cousin, I want what I created as main profile, so can my profile be unmerged please
-
Angela Vina I have this same question. Someone please help!
-
Jeff, Geni Curator Angela, I don't see that your profile was merged or any conflict around you. Helen, I see your profile was merged, but don't see any issues (let me know if you're having a problem).

Angela Vina This is what happened, I think. I noticed there were two people with the same name on my family tree. Nancy Hendricks. I thought I had added her twice. At some point there was a question about merging the family trees so since I thought it was just pertaining to my family tree not the "world family tree" I chose to merge the trees. Now I have someone else's information about Nancy Hendricks and other relatives. I can't delete that entry because someone else manages that entry for Nancy Hendricks. All I want is for my tree to have just the stuff I put on it. I didn't realize that it was not separate from the so called "World Tree"

Helen Francis I had 2 Geni profiles and accidentally merged them. I would like to remain with the 2 profiles, especially because the one that ' disappeared' contained important inbox messages! This happened in February, and I couldn't find any info on how to unmerge. So if still possible let me know / let me know how. Thank you.

Jeff, Geni Curator Angela, this is what Geni is. It's a collaborative world tree. You're going to find it very difficult to maintain an isolated tree as Geni is not built like that. Not only that but it creates more work for everyone if you duplciate existing branches. If you want an isolated tree, you'll be much happier with our parent website www.myheritage.com
If it is a duplicate of the same person, then it should be merged. I'll certainly help resolve any duplicates that arise from a merge or help correct mistakes, but this is what Geni is. https://www.geni.com/worldfamilytree/learn-more

Jeff, Geni Curator Helen, I'm not sure I understand but I unmeged them so you can look for your inbox messages. If they don't exist, then it would be best to remerge.

Helen Francis Funny, the second profile I now see on Geni was deleted on December 23, 2008. The second profile I mean was merged in February of this year.

Angela Vina Thanks for the reply. I thought my tree was separate unless I chose to merge to the world tree, which I didn't think I did. There is a "Share Tree" tab so I thought as long as I didn't do that my tree was separate. I recently became active again with this after have DNA tested at Family Tree DNA. Sorry for my misunderstanding of how the tree works. I'll just deal with the duplicate and won't choose to merge again. I would really like to be able to maintain mine tree separate and transfer info out onto the larger tree. It is hard to navigate a tree when there are so many people on it that are not directly related to me. Many of my relatives had over 10 children in the families.
Thanks again for such a quick reply.

Jeff, Geni Curator Angela, do know that Curators are instructed by Geni to merge duplicates when we see them. If you duplicate existing profiles, they will likely get merged at one point or another. I just don't want you to think that if you just don't merge anything that will prevent it - it will happen anyway. I just say this because I don't want you to get frustrated - it's a collaborative world tree. Great to hear you uploaded DNA, it's a great use of Geni as we have hundreds of thousands of people that are able to validate lines in the tree across various branches. You're able to validate one line, while someone else validates another. It's truly amazing.
As for navigating the tree, there is an option at the bottom of the tree called "Preferences". You can change the number of Ancestors and Descendants displayed, which really helps so you don't get overloaded. There is also an option to see only direct ancestors, though I think the 5 generation view (bottom right) is a better option for that. There are also several different views for the profile, that might allow you to see more.

Erin Kathleen Shakhmayeva Hello, I got permission from anonther manager to merge two trees--I thought it was my relative because same first and middle name, birth state and birth date, but it's now clear that they're different people (James Lewis Clark's father should be Silas Clark, not Lewis Clark). Could you help me unmerge these trees? Thanks!

Jeff, Geni Curator Ari, what profile?
-
Ari Kayser Hi, it was Avraham Hadad.
-
Jeff, Geni Curator Ari, a little more information please. There are 15 Avraham Hadad profiles on Geni, 4 of which you manage. A link to the profile would be great.
-
Ari Kayser Hi, there is an Avraham Hadad who is the father of Yitzchak Hadad (another profile I merged with Itshak Hadad). This Yitzchak/Itshak Hadad also had a son called Avraham Hadad.
I believe I merged Avraham Hadad (the father of Yitzchak/Itshak) with someone else's Avraham Hadad (the son of Itshak) by mistake. The profiles I merged with, are managed by Silit Lazare.
Can this be rectified?
Many thanks, Ari -
Jeff, Geni Curator Ari, I've unmerged them.
-
Ari Kayser Thank you

Gulkarov Nikolay I have the same problem. I am Nikolay Gulkarov but my profile shows Marco Milhem. Yesterday I accidentally made this revision, listed under the revisions tab, it says:
Gulkarov Nikolay was merged into Marco Milhem by (No Name).Yesterday at 8:37 AM · viewNow my profile shows another family member (Marco Milhem) and my wife and children are under his name and my profile listed his name and information.
Please help!
-
Jeff, Geni Curator Nikolay, please take a look and make sure all the information is correct. You should now be unmerged from Marco.
-
Gulkarov Nikolay Thank you Jeff. The tree looks correct, however, my profile when I log is still says Marco, has his photo, and has all his information. Where did my profile and photo go?
-
Jeff, Geni Curator Hmm, ok - Are you the one with the Pro account? Does Marco have an account? On your profile account settings, are there two email addresses listed or just one?
https://www.geni.com/account_settings/email_password
What I may need to do is just create a new profile for Marco and then disconnect you from that tree and reconnect you where you belong.
-
Gulkarov Nikolay Hi Jeff,
Yes, I (Nikolay) have the Pro account. My email starts with gulk. I'm not sure if Marco has an account, but I am not sure if he does (he is 99 years old) so maybe not. There are two emails listed. I do not know what the second email address is or whose it is.
Thank you for your help.
-
Jeff, Geni Curator Nikolay, can you do this for me.. it will make things a little easier. Add a brother to your "Marco" profile, name it Marco Milhem. This will be the new profile that we use for Marco as I'm going to disconnect your "Marco" profile from this branch and put you where you belong. Let me know when you get it created and I'll make the other changes.
-
Jeff, Geni Curator Oh, attach that picture to the profile you create as well if you can.
-
Gulkarov Nikolay Hi Jeff, should be all set as you requested. Please let us know if you need anything else. Thank you very much for all your help!
-
Jeff, Geni Curator Nikolay, I don't see that you created a sibling profile. Please review my request again. Thanks
-
Gulkarov Nikolay Hi Jeff, I created my brother's profile with my family. See the picture. And I changed the photo from Marco Milcham to my photo
Thank you very much for all your help!
-
