I have tried to remove the parent of a person I have and the Remove button remains Greyed out (Inactive) no matter what I do. I have tried in Firefox, IE and Google Chrome to no avail. Can you assist please as I have a number of people who should not be in my tree and wish to remove them

I am a Basic/Free user.
This should not make any diffrence. If I have an error in my tree then I should still be able to remove it. If I am not and other people see and use my data then this call into question the validity of the BIG TREE that Geni are attempting to build. Additionally I am spending time and effort to add data to the tree and would prefer to have the data correct

Am I to take it the your sole response to my report of a possible bug in the software is 'Basic/free user?' because I am not a Pro member ?
If so then this is poor technical support. I have a part of my tree that is incorrect. I am very sure from the Knowledge base that there are other people who have logged requests about this same issue and if this is the level of response that they all get it must call into question the validity of the data within the Geni tree.
Are Geni as an organisation content to know that there is a good possibility that there is incorrect data in the big tree and are not prepared to do anything about it ? If so then this site is worthless as a family tree building site.
Finally I would expect that having reported a 'Possible issue' that I would receive the courtesy of an informative reply to my request rather than an, in my opinion, insulting reply.
I welcome the intervention by MyHeritage. Customer support will possibly improve

Iain, this is community help, so volunteer users trying to help you. So please be polite. Bjorn is under no obligation to assist and under no time constraint to respond. In addition, you filed this as a bug report, not a support request - which is probably why you got the curt response. It sounds like he was clarifying / determining why you may or may not be experiencing a bug (pro user = bug, free user = no bug). As for your response, if you want improved customer support, become a paying member (priority support is a feature of premium membership) and submit a ticket to Geni.
Aside from possibilities of tree vandalism, free users tend to be less experience with Geni and splitting a tree can have large effects, so this permission is reserved for Pro membership. As a free member, you would likely get better results sending a message to the managers of the profile that is incorrectly assigned (Profile, Contact Profile Manager) or starting a Discussion on the profile. Those that are involved can take corrective action or provide documentation to dispute the relationship change. Alternatively, you could raise the issue (with a link to the profile) in the curator discussion thread (http://www.geni.com/discussions/80793) as we do have an interest in accurately building the world tree. In any case, take a breather, we're all here to make the tree better. :)

My last response was to query the response I had initialy received from Bjørn. The only response I had was to ask if I was Basic/Free ?. It did not offer anything else.
As far as I was concerned it was a bug. I am the Manager of the profiles concerened and all I was trying to do was to remove some people from my tree who I had erroneously added perviously. This caused me to create a link that was invalid. I realise that the error was mine but I was trying to resolve it and ensure that the data in my tree and thus any links to my tree were valid. In my instance the functionality to remove links to people did not work - the button to Remove remained Greyed out - so I was asking for assistance.
In making the point about the level of support, I was not aware that the support was by volunteers. My apologies. However, I would suggest that a less curt reply would have resulted in a more cordial reply by me. Once again however, My apologies.
In the end I have managed to sort the error but it took me a lot of effort and could so easily have resulted in Unintentional vandalism of the data.

This program is so FRUSTRATING! I am a basic/free user who added someone that is showing as the wife of the wrong brother who I also added. There are no children added, but the program will not allow me to delete the relationship with the wrong brother. I even tried deleting the person that has no other ties to the tree. I just get the grayed-out remove buttons with the warning message. Deleting the incorrect relationship would do nothing to the rest of the tree, but it refuses to let me do that. I have seen many similar comments from other users made years ago, so obviously Geni has no plans to fix this common problem.
Free user, there have been issues for over two years removing relationships. Sometimes when removing a descendant. The relationship is stays left labeled Unknown.
I am in the same situation. I am unable to delete someone that I added erroneously. I would so much appreciate some help from some one.
I would so much like to join the PRO membership but I cannot afford the amount requested. The Rand is not as strong as the Dollar.

If you want help disconnecting a profile, it would be helpful to know which profile specifically you want disconnected from which profile.

Gunvald was not married, but from what I can see on other trees he did get a child Lars born 1883, dead 1956 with the spouse the name is removed of and you want to disconnect. If this is true she should be left as a partner and the child added. I will try to find sources on this.
Gunvald was not married and did not have a child. The child entry was an error also. The person who added the child said he would remove him and I thought he did. If you look at the dates, Gunvald would have been 8 years old when that child was born. The wife and the child are both incorrect. If you could help correct those errors, it would be greatly appreciated. It would be nice if Geni made it easier to correct errors.
Gunvald was my grandmother's brother. I know the family history very well and have all of the paperwork from when Gunvald died.

The solution is quite simple: Just delete the profile, - there is no other tree connected to it.
I have not had time to search for sources, but you are correct: He was too young. The mother does not show up with a child either before she get married with an other and get children.

I suggest that free users were doing genealogy research and generously sharing with one another a long time before the internet which is when commercialization of genealogy records started. I even found some of my original research on at a website that costs even though I never gave the owners of the commercial website permission to use it.
I have always shared my information with fellow researchers. That is why many of us only use basic.
I agree with the original poster for all the reasons stated. When we have input information and thus are managing it, we need to be able to make corrections so that the error does not proliferate.
Hey, I have a HUGE problem! Somone asked to connect with me and her parents are now showing as a second set of parents to me and I cant delete them! Her entire family tree has taken over mine, even though the account is in my name, with my login and password. It even had her picture with my info! Now it looks like I have 2 sets of parents and a whole crapload of ancestors that are not mine!!!
Marianne, that is how Geni works, - trees are connected to a big tree with the goal of being a world tree. In you case this user built most of this line for 8 yeas ago, so technically you are the newcomer and intruder in her tree. The idea with the world tree, which is Gens goal is that people work together on the tree, sharing result and work where every contribute with the lines they are familiar with.

What is needed is completing the merges, and I will help you with that. You should never start deleting profiles in a shared tree, - in your case you will destroy 8 years work of this user since you are ruing her tree as well.
The reason for seeing personal info is because she is within your family group. Just send her a collaboration request or accept one to get better access to public profiles outside your shared family line.
OK, I see now, - it was a result of a bad merge, I have reversed it.

So what do I do now? I log in with my own email address and password and I see all her stuff as if I was her! My information is GONE!
Somehow the accounts got mixed, - I have to ask Geni staff to take a look on it.
Two user accounts got merged, something that could have been rejected since the names was different, but this was an email merge because one of you assigned the others email you your own account.
All i know is I accepted a connect. Then when I came back later to add a death date for my uncle I had someone elses name, photo and info even though I logged in with MY email and password. I have been trying to fix my informaiton to MINE, not someone elses. It showed I had 2 HUSBANDS! AND 2 MOTHERS, AND 2 FATHERS! How could something like this happen? It worries me that someone else could just “take over” my account and information! I cant even get to my tree because Geni thinks I am Alice - someone I dont even know. I had not even been logged in here in a very long time, but kept getting emails that it was my DEAD relatives birthdays so figured I would add death dates. What a mess just to try to add dates of death to stop the emails
You arent GENI staff? Then how did you reverse the merge?????
I am one of the voluntary curators in Geni with some extended access, but this seem to be an error in the reversing of the merge.
When getting the request you should have seen that it was an error, but done is done, - just wait for customer support to take a look.

I am tired of trying to delete my complete file on Geni. You have put in a Mrs where it should be a Mr and other items put in three times and still not staying so that I have to do it for the fourth time. I am a Basic/Free user and have a relationship that I cannot remove. In my tree James Newton Harris has 2 dsets of parents. The correct ones of David C. Harris and Almira Harris and an incorrect set of George Fox Vandergrift and Helen M. Vandergrift. This also causes James Newton Harris to have siblings named Vandergrift that he never had. I have read aznd tried all the suggestions on help and have even attempted to contact the managers of the Vandergrift tree, but have had no response.
There should be no connection between James Newton Harris and any Vandergrifts. I have no idea how this connection was ever made. Can someone please remove the incorrect relztionship?
