DNA matches through in-laws

How can I be related to someone through their in-laws?  GENI shows me related to someone through their husband....but I am not.  It also shows me related to someone's grandmother's brother's wife's brother's son.......HELP

  Geni's relationship path is usually a shortest path within the existing tree.  You may be related to them via DNA in ways not currently connected or more distant than what the current tree displays.  

  Autosomal DNA does not show you a path, Y & Mt DNA can only indicate a direct blood relation via the paternal or maternal line.  What you're seeing as a relationship is the path in the existing tree, but the DNA is telling you is that the person is biologically related to you.  I expect this is the type of discovery we hope for... 

  Another possibility is that someone upload DNA to the wrong profile.
