A part of my tree was merged with another tree by mistake. I need to un-merge it but unfortunately there's no such feature. It seems to me that this is often requested, yet this feature (to my knowledge) hasn't been developed.
Can I please get some help with this?

Curators have the ability to unmerge profiles if you want to point me to the bad merge. The tool is not available to users as it's not a finished product and can sometimes lead to a mess. Curators do it enough that we know it's quirks and have the ability to fix the tree after the unmerge.

7 years ago I merged my family with my new husband's and was told there was not any way to unmerge. Lots of family (on both sides) is unhappy and have stopped using Geni because there are relatives that are only mine through marriage. Please Help!

Carol, from what you describe and what I see, it looks like an accurate connection. If the relationship is valid, this is what we want. Geni is a shared tree where we connect these relationships creating a single world tree. Family members can limit information by adjusting their family group https://www.geni.com/account_settings/family We want to encourage users to build on all areas of their trees, merge any accurate duplicates to connect the various branches together. This is exactly what Geni is designed to do and the goal. What I offer above is to unmerge bad merges, meaning the two people merged were not the same person, creating an inaccurate tree.

and wondered if you could disconnect my merge with the Wormus family where I appear as the wife of Gary. As he appears as my husband in my Beguelin family. Or is this a different issue?
Yes, I believe it's a different issue. If Gary is your husband, then it is proper to leave these trees connected. It accurately represents the real connections.
Jeff, I searched because I have the same problem. Someone was trying to help me find a connection on here and ended up merging me with someone else. She said it was by adding my email address to their profile. The person I was combined with is Seija (last name not available at the moment) and her parents are Aarne Olavi Aukustinpoika and Sylvi Esteri Mathlin.
Tod, you should be all set now. Yes, your email is your account, so if you put your email into another profile it will merge the two profiles.

Jeff, could you please unmerge those two trees, because Anelija Juozaitienė (https://www.geni.com/people/Anelija-Juozaitien%C4%97/6000000007533290809) was not married to Juozas Juozaitis (https://www.geni.com/people/Juozas-Juozaitis/6000000007533312218), so that I can insert the correct person (my real grandmother) and create the correct family branch.

I agree -- merge is a horrible feature. I once merged my family tree with that of my uncle's second wife, and now we get notifications about birthdays and anniversaries for people we don't know.

I need help with the following profile that I manage. I am a basic user so I don't have access to any paid features.

When I created the profile and began adding relatives I relied on information from other sources which pointed to my relative's father being Zachariah Scott and mother being Elizabeth Scott, which you will see the connection when you look at the profile.
I have recently been made aware that my William B. Scott is not the son of Zachariah and Elizabeth, but his parents are as yet to be identified, possibly from Edinburgh, Scotland. I have had multiple sources confirm to me that the parents are not correct for him. I tried to remove the connection on his profile to them but it popped up a warning saying that it would split the family trees, when I checked the checkbox next to their names. There was a greyed out button below saying to remove (the selected relationship) but it would not click because it was greyed out. Frustrated, I added two place holder profiles as Williams new set of parents, Mr. Unknown Scott and Mrs. Unknown Scott and then tried again to remove Zachariah and Elizabeth, but still no success, Same greyed out box. Please help.

Birthday emails can be deactivated under Account Settings - Notifications.
I'd like to selectively deactivate the emails about birthdays and anniversaries for that part of the tree for everyone in my tree. We don't know those folks!
And since curators have the ability to sever folks, I would truly appreciate it if they would sever this branch for me
I think they're only allowed to sever if the connection is wrong.
Have you looked at your Family Group settings? Maybe the circle of inlaws is set too wide there.

This merge may be mistake, because dependant on sources mothers name is different. Despite similar names, fathers names and same birthdate.

Joseph Aaron Wells was so poor he could never have afforded to travel outside of the USA, nor did he. Rose Sorenson Wells was born & died in New Zealand. There is no way these 2 people could ever have even met. I don't know how anyone could have thought Joseph Aaron Wells was her husband. It looks like they're just merging anyone they can find that has the name they're looking for into their family, creating lots of inaccuracies throughout the tree. It seems they don't understand merging profiles should not happen until you've actually done the research to confirm intended merges. Those of us actually related to Joseph Aaron Wells have been stressed & confused regarding these merges inaccurately portraying his family tree. Please help me to correct this huge mistake in someone's judgement & sever his connection to Rose (Sorenson) Wells.
