Hi can you assist with an illegitimate child entry? I do not feel comfortable putting partner or ex-partner. The sexual encounter was just that an encounter and the male married but took the child home for his mother to bring up so no real father but he is the farther.

Geni gives options for various parental relationships and you can have more than one parent relationship. I would make the father a biological relationship and his parents the adoptive relationship. That way the proper relationships are documented and any future DNA testing by descendants will properly align. Jeff - do you know how to edit a relationship. Our family discovered that my grandmother had a child before our branch. We do not know the father. We want to include this new member in our tree but right now Geni had linked him to both his mother and his mother's husband (not his father). Everytime I try to remove the relationship and adjust it so that he is only related to his mother the system won't allow me. It keeps warning me that the tree will split. What to do?

Sure - add a new partner to the mother, just put unknown for the name. Then in the relationship of the child use the parent drop down menu to select the mother and unknown as the parents. Then, if you choose, delete the unknown profile.
There are a few more steps if you want to document the husband as an adoptive father.
