When I try to disconnect two persons from relations tab, the system only states that this would split the tree and the remove button stays gray. There would definitely not be a split of the tree, just two persons that are not connected in any manner would be separated but the profiles would stay as they are.

Jeff, Geni Curator That is what is referred to as splitting a tree - the parents are no longer connected (split from) a part of the tree (correctly or not). Such a split requires a Pro membership, or you can request Curator assistance.
