Privacy in Gedcom export

I often export my Geni blood relative tree as GEDCOM file to for example FTDNA.com, or share it at dropbox with friends who use tools that automize the comparison of trees.

I do not want to spread personal data on living people this way. Some living people are hidden, but living close relatives of me as well as of my colaboration partners seems to be fully visible. Is that correct?

Can you suggest some simple tool that automatically deletes living people from a Gedcom file, or hides their info?

I suggest such a feature in the Geni.com Gedcom export tool.

  Yes, that is correct, - a GEDCOM download is meant as a personal backup, getting the data you as a user have access to, not for sharing.

  Sharing your GEDCOM is a personal choice, also for the privacy issue, so to ensure privacy you need to import your GEDCOM in a suitable program and chop off the parts you don't want to share. Some of those programs have a simple choice just to leave out all people marked as living.

  There is a huge amount of visible profiles of living people in my tree. I still suggest that Geni should offer hiding/deletion of all living people AS AN OPTION in the gedcom export settings. A rather simple feature that would improve the Geni reputation.
