How do I change the format of my family tree from a horizontal to vertical format?

My tree with no warning went to a horizontal format which also is less easy to navigate. Does anyone know how to change it back to vertical?

  Look at the 6 icons in the bottom right corner in tree view. The leftmost icon toggles between horizontal and vertical view.
