Bizarre - Can't view profiles

Let me get this straight... I created a basic membership, which I totally understand doesn't entitle me to anything. When I search for a name and get results, I can't even view the profiles that turn up. Okay, so I have to pay for a subscription to get that information. Here's what's bizarre: I can view the profile if I'm not logged in and get the result through a web search. That's how I found Geni in the first place. 

What am I missing here? Is it really true that with a basic Geni I can create my own family tree, but I can't look at profiles? What's the point of that?

  Update - I've found how to view the profiles I want to see. I can choose to view the profile as an action in the pop-up that appears when I hover over the name. I just can't click directly on the name from the search results. That takes me to the subscription page. I guess that's one way to get people to buy a subscription.

  It's actually a lot easier to search when I'm not logged in.
