Why do I get a DNA Match which, when clicking on 'How are you related' I am then told that there is no blood or in-law relationship? And, why would I want an in-law relationship anyway?

Geni Support Team Hi Brian, the relationships paths are based on profiles that exist in the tree. In this case, you are seeing the message that no relationship can be found because the path between you and that DNA match may be too far to be calculated. More research will need to be done in your family tree tree so that you can find a closer relationship between you and your DNA match.

Brian Turner But why was the 'match' advised as being a match in the first place and why are in-law relationships considered matches?

Geni Support Team The DNA match is based on your DNA results that were imported from Family Tree DNA. Along with your DNA match is an estimated relationship based on your DNA results. As with any DNA matches, you will need to do more genealogy research to determine how you are actually related to the person in the tree.
If you have an in-law path to a DNA match, then it's likely there is a blood path too. That's where more research is needed to determine how you are related through a blood path. Once that is discovered and added to the tree, your relationship path will update to reflect that new information.
