Limit the display characteeristics of "my tree"

When I try and view "my tree" from the farthest in the past ancestor I have, I get, what to me, is a lot of lateral noise from the trees of distant cousin's inlaws relations.  While I am sure they are lovely people - I don;t care except in the most dry academic curiosity sense. I just don;t need to know about my second cousin's wife's cousins as they are - except in an Adam and Eve sense - probably not remotely related to me.  And the effective problem is that as this tree spreads sideways in the display, I can't see enough detail on one screen of what I actually DO care about. HELP! Thanks in advance for any insight on how to control this.
