Merging two private profiles in separate trees

There is a profile in my tree which is listed without their children, however when I searched up their name I discovered that they do exist on another tree, with children recorded. I would like to merge the two profiles, but being that the other profile is Private, I am unable to.

I have sent a collaboration request to the other profile's manager, but from the little research that I have done about collaboration requests, they will only allow me to access that person's Public profiles, and not their Private profiles, and I will still be unable to request the merge.

What I'm wondering now is 1) if so, what is the point of a collaboration request, and 2) is there any way for me to accomplish this merge?

Would I need to request a curator's help, and/or would they even be able to help?

  1) You and your collaborators can find each others public managed profiles using the Geni search screen without hitting the pay-wall.

  Hey Job, thanks for that response.

  Okay, so I get the benefit of the collaboration, that now I am able to search and find their profiles. I don't exactly see the great value in that... but that's another discussion.

  What I'm asking now is, how can I accomplish the merge? I'm still not able to request it, being that the other profile is Private.

  So, again: Is there any way for me (or my collaborator for that matter, who happens to have a Pro account, in fact) to request the merge? Or is this something a Curator has to do.

  Sorry, I was late for an appointment when I was writing the answer, so I only wrote  a little bit of the info.

  If you collaborate you can merge public profiles with your collaborators without having to wait for their approval and you can see the relation tab of the public profiles.

  For 2) it is a bit complicated.

  If you are in the family group of the profile you can do the merge. So it may be possible you could merge a common public profile to get into the family group of the private profile.

  If that is no option then If the profile has a birth date (or estimated birth date) more than 150 years ago, you can request to make it public in https://www.geni.com/discussions/257429 and if the profile does not has private information it will be made public, so you can merge it.

  If it cannot be made public you are depended on the other manager or another user in the family group of that private profile.  As you cannot request a merge you will have to sent a message to the manager and/or other users in the family group of the private profile.

  If the other manager is willing he/she could add you to the family group and that would allow you to see and edit any private profiles in that family group.

  If the profiles are in separate trees you might need curator assistance even when the profiles are public (not sure about that).

  Ok, thanks for the clarification.

  I have actually went ahead and extended the tree on my end to the point where I was able to merge a public profile, and hopefully now the other manager will merge other profiles I've added and connect all the links.

  But I do appreciate the advice regarding being added to the family group - that sounds like it might indeed be the solution that I am looking for.

  If she doesn't go ahead and merge the profiles, I will ask her to add me to the family group, and hopefully I will be able to do it myself.

  I don't see this as a solution.

  This is getting worse every day.  It seems all living people are now have their profiles as private.  More and more living people are getting merged into existing family trees and now both profiles are private and impossible to complete merges as many many users or profiles are not active on geni.  Let get real, people using geni are living so what to get the profiles they creted merged into exiting trees, but this is causing many many duplicates as private in our tree.

   

  Curators please find a solution for this.
