When choosing to merge 2 profiles, are all the details from both profiles kept? For example, if one manager has 'Tracy Fox' and the other has 'Clare Tracy Fox', (and they are the same individual), what will the resulting profile name look like?

After the merge, you need to go to the profile and under "More Actions", resolve conflicting data. That will let you select the correct name and put them in the right place.
I have an additional question to this matter. If these profiles have different managers, who will become the manager of the merged profile?
Both managers will have management rights. You will see one name plus oyhers
It is my understanding that the merger must contact th other manager for them to validate the merge. So it's not up to one manager to complete a merge.
Harry, yes unless you have a collaboration with the other manager. Collaboration allows you to merge their profiles into other profiles where you have similar rights.
