Harald Tveit Alvestrand (Tveit) Edit the profile. There are edit links in the profile page and in the entry on the tree view.
If you don't have rights to edit, you may have to use "request to edit profile".

Michel Neray sorry, I don't see how to edit that either. I added my mother's profile so I should be able to manage it. She is now deceased and I want to update her profile.

Harald Tveit Alvestrand (Tveit) aha!
at the top of the box there's some radio buttons saying "living" and "deceased". You have to click the "deceased" button to make the date-of-death field appear.

Michel Neray Sorry, I just don't see it. At the top of which box? (Thanks for your help!)

Harald Tveit Alvestrand (Tveit) The edit box you get from the "edit" button in the tree.
There is a picture of it at http://www.alvestrand.no/temp/editbox.png

Michel Neray The plot thickens. I don't have those options; not on my profile nor on my mother's. You might guess I don't have editing rights, but i certainly have been able to change things like wedding date and birth order.

Gail Dunn The Living or Deceased field only appears on unclaimed pages. Once a person had accepted your invitation and updated their own page, the option disappears, even for the person who added them.
-
Michel Neray OK that's helpful, but now what should I do?

Gail Dunn I've tried going to the Geni Help page and clicking the Submit A Request option near the top of the page. I've provided the person's name, date of death, and the e-mail address I think they were using. Hopefully they can either enter the info for me or re-set the profile to Unclaimed so I can do it myself. Give it a try.

Michel Neray smart thinking. let's see if that works.... I'll keep you posted. Thanks!

La Donna Collier, Esq. I have editing rights to my cousin's profile. He died about two weeks ago but there is no option to add his death date. Please advise....
-
Jeff, Geni Curator La Donna, You'll have to change the status to deceased before you'll see the entry for entering death and burial dates.

La Donna Collier, Esq. How do I change his status to deceased?
-
La Donna Collier, Esq. There's no option on his profile to change his status to deceased.
-
Jeff, Geni Curator If it tree view and you click edit on the profile, it should be the top line above Name. If you don't have this option, was the profile claimed by the deceased person at some prior point?
-
La Donna Collier, Esq. Yes I'm familiar with those options in the top bar above the name but I don't see this bar for my cousin's profile....Perhaps he did take it over prior to his death but his profile still says its being managed by me so I'm confused now.

Jeff, Geni Curator It must be in the limbo period, where there is a Joined on as well as Last Online date. That would mean he connected to the account, but never changed his password to officially claim it. Guess you'll have to report it. Go to the profile, select the "More Actions", and choose report. There is an option for identifying the person as deceased.

La Donna Collier, Esq. Thanks Jeff I just submitted a report.
