How can I temporarily "suspend" a branch of my tree and still carry on building it?

I want to "suspend/suppress" or temporarily disconnect a branch of the my tree until I can confirm absolutely

that it is connected to mine (I'm 90% sure and am getting it confirmed by a professional), and still carry on building it?
