i.e. other than, 'put them all in by hand' Oh, Oh and 'search for them in everyone else's tree'?
Would it end the world if you let us import and just dropped entries before say 1750?

The Geni world as we know it would come to an end ;-)
You have got to be kidding....I can't import my tree? I guess I really don't understand this site at all. What does Livi's answer mean "....come to an end". I am really missing the point. Sure glad this is a free trial. I trace my ancestors to 1710 and I am surely not expected to enter hundreds of entries manually....or am I? I just don't get it. Help.
Hasn't it been "temporarily disabled" for years now? I am one of many who is putting off starting a paid subscription until the promised solution comes around. Would it really be so hard to require each user to "earn" the import by proving he has spent time looking into possible duplicates, or simply by paying some subscription money?
In the past we allowed users to import GEDCOM files onto Geni. However, this caused a tremendous amount of duplicates and cleaning up the Big Tree became a tedious task. Therefore, we have temporarily disabled our GEDCOM importer feature to prevent people from creating duplicate profiles.
You might first try searching for a Surname here or our Public Directory to see if any of your relatives already have those people included in their tree. If they do, you can easily reach out to them and merge your tree with theirs. Once you are merged into their tree, those profiles will also be in your tree and you will be able to access/edit that information.
If their profiles are not yet on Geni, you will be required to enter those people on the tree manually.
That "answer" is nothing but a cut-and-paste from old times, when the word "temporarily" could have been used with a straight face. Not only does it not address my comment, or answer my specific questions, but ironically it was that particular stock answer that prompted my comments in the first place.
Isn't there some way to force users to do their own "tedious" cleanup, perhaps by quarantining their tree until it passes muster? In my case it would be a lot less tedious than typing in several hundred detailed entries by hand.
thought id check to see if the gedcom import option had been reinstated yet. no. it hasn't. ok, still waiting for it...
I looked everywhere multiple times for a way to import a GEDCOM. I searched same today and discovered this bit of unwelcome information. I WILL NOT renew my account if this is considered okay by GENI management. I'll be over at Ancestry until these numbskulls can figure out a way to import a GEDCOM.
