When I came across duplicate entries, I requested a merge. The screen then showed the 2 people to be merged. When I said "Yes" to the merge--as they were definitely the same person, it only offered me the "opportunity" of being a GeniPro. Can we no longer merge duplicates??

Jeffrey Waite (Webb) I can understand you trying to sell Geni Pro, so why when trying to Merge and one refuses the offer of Geni Pro it reverts back to the original and just keeps repeating over and over.
Please fix so we can get on with mergings.
Thanks.

Jeff, Geni Curator Only pro accounts can merge profiles now. The reasoning was so that Pro's now have the ability to fix all the corresponding merges that comes with a single merge to fix the tree, where free users were often limited, only having permission to merge a few of the profiles based on collaboration or acceptance.

Paula Mae Hurwitz Phoey re: unable to merge! In this situation...what if there are duplicate entries and neither person in a Geni Pro. Then, what do you do?

Jeff, Geni Curator You can ask someone with a pro account to merge them for you or apply for a trial membership.
Here is the discussion to request someone merge the profiles for you.

Katrin Wallis Can we please have the option back to merge.
And if your not giving it back can you make it clear that the normal account users cant do any merging nor will they be able to response to other people merge request.
Very annoyed that the page doesn't even explain this just throws the get Geni Pro account and when you say not thanks it doesn't say if the merge has gone through or not.
Hoping to get a response to this

Paula Mae Hurwitz Regarding this issue... And you think that Geni Pro people are more knowledgeable about merges than the non-Pro?? Just because someone is willing to pay does not make them a more accurate genealogist than a non-Pro. I've been working on one line since 1985. How do you know if the Pro just "discovered": genealogy and his meager or no documentation? And that new Pro can fix things??
When I receive the automatically generated e-mail frmo Geni telling me there is a possible duplication, it's frustrating to then go to the potential merge and not be able to do anything. What is the benefit of being a manager of my entries when, as a non-Pro, I am severely restricted as to what I can do?
