Everytime I try to click on no thanks I gt the person's profile then I click on send a birthday greeting and then it automatically goes back to the advertising for the upgrade. So do you now have to upgrade and pay to participate in Geni.com?

They changed the Gifts to a premium features (Plus or Pro account). I'm not sure if they're going to bring back purchasing credits for gifts. For the moment, I'd suggest just writing something nice in their guestbook (it's the same thing, minus the cute icon).
