Hello. I am new to geni. I was working on my tree all by my lonesome, when i noticed that there were matching profiles that were much more comprehensive than mine. It was definitely the same guy--same parents, wife, children. Same place, same times, etc. The name was spelled slightly differently (Piles vs. Pyles). I accepted the similarity. At this point geni listed the guy in two spots, and referred to him as my 5th great uncle..even though he was 4th great grandfather. I could see where he was being counted as a brother to himself to create the uncle situation. Today geni brought the data conflict to my attention, and I selected the master profile as the right one. Now... the problem is even worse! He named in his profile, but in the relationship path is referred to as No Name ---> No Name (his yourself) . And everything else is No Name oriented, for instance clicking on my brother's profile gives the path of Scott S. is No Name's 4th great grandson, instead of my brother.
Also when I have merged, it was not counting spouses as relatives in the relationship path, though they were included in the ancestor lists. My 11th great grandmother's husband is my 11th great gandfather, but not according to this ?! What have I done wrong, ad how do I resolve these issues? I feel like an idiot. I hope I didn't screw up anyone else's tree. :(
