When looking up my family surname, I wanted to see if I was related to someone that I know who happens to have family members with the same names as people in my family and her mom's maiden name is my last name. Geni showed the family link that we are related. Someone from the other family went to Russia to trace his family tree and came up with my grandfather (same birth and death date). Is this really true that we are distantly related, or is it just because the names are the same in each of our families that it showed a connection? Also, each family has a relative with the same weird nickname. Could this just be a big coincidence? This is a big mystery on both sides that we want to clear up already.
On the other hand, I randomly chose other families in Geni with the same surname as mine and it came up that there was no connection.
