How long was it since you had logged in to your tree? Until recently, anyone who went 'long enough' without logging in (a year? / six months?) would have / might have their tree considered abandoned and turned over to someone else. Might this be what happened?
Does anyone on the Geni-Team know of a way to fix / undo such unwanted changes to profile management / ownership if / when folks try to return to their tree?
I SEEME TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I DO NOT SEE ANYWHERE , WHERE TO LOG INTO "MY TREE". I'M GETTING VERY PISSED IF ALL THE WORK I DID IS NOW STOLEN FROM ME OR ERASED? THIS GIVES GENI A VERY BAD NAME. THE WHOLE IDEA WITH STUDIING YOUR HERITAGE IS TIME - LOTS OF TIME - NO RUSH - IF THIS IS CORRECT THAT YOU HAVE A PRESSURE TO LOG IN TO GENI WITHIN CERTAIN INTERVALS, I HAVE TO WARN ALL MY FRIENDS AND RELATIVES AGAINST GENI.
Ok, to clear up some confusion. If you haven't logged into your account for a year, then a family member can report your account as abandoned (it is not done automatically - it requires someone to report it). At which time, Geni can add your closest active relative on Geni as a manager of those profiles. Geni is a collaborative tree with multiple family members connecting into existing trees. So if someone abandons a tree, it can prevent family members from building onto it, merging duplicates, etc. If you come back, you'll still have access to those profiles. You don't lose your tree - nothing changes except another member can act as a manager of the profiles.
Now, if you are missing your tree. This is due to duplicate accounts, not any type of transfer. It is always the case that I've seen that the user has logged into Geni with more than one account. So their full tree is on a different account then the one they are currently logged into.
Arvid, I only see one account for you and your immediate family appear to be there, so I'm not sure what your missing, please explain. If a part of your tree is missing, it could be a conflict in the tree that requires resolution.
Françoise, if you no longer have access to your original email address used on Geni and do not know the password for Geni, please send an email to subscriptions@geni.com for further assistance.
