The birth date of one of my family members is wrong.
When I try to change it, Geni says that it has save the changes, but it hasn't.
Is this a bug or a feature?

I have the same problem but I can't change it at all.
If the profile is unclaimed, you should be able to updated the birth date. Once someone accepts your invitation, they are claiming their account. What this means is that they will also be able to collaborate any information they have and share it with others within their Network.
You will still have the ability to edit their Profile, until they have set their permanent password and updated their Privacy Settings.
If that person would like for you to edit their profile, they may login to their Geni account, go here: http://www.geni.com/account_settings/permissions , check on the "Let my family edit my profile" box and save that update.
