I joined just to leave a message for someone who was looking for information. I had a picture and birth date for someone and googled it and your site came up. Why is there no way for the general public to leave a message and or info they may have found for one of your paying members?

Can't speak for Geni, but it would probably result in users getting tons of spam. This at least requires your validation and gives the other user a way to communicate with you through Geni. And of course, there is the hope that once you have an account, that you'll contribute more.
