Today is my last day as a Pro Geni subscriber. I liked Geni for 2 years until they upped the rates and closed down access to invited family members whose complaints about endless emails had already driven most of them away. I uploaded hundreds of photos and more than 400 documents ranging from old genealogy notes, letters and obituaries to Birth, Marriage, Death, and census docs. While I've deleted most of them from my Geni account, I've left much of the data I entered and many transcriptions of obituaries and census' in the info sections on individual profiles. I've left photos I took of grave markers and single photos of ancestors. I don't believe deleting such hard work does anyone any good so it's Geni's to have now without the supporting documents which once were there.
I count myself as someone whose passion and endless hours of contribution of my own family data/research into geni.com was a huge asset to the company. I get the sense that quite a few of us packing up our documents and photos and heading away from Geni to other websites that value collaborative genealogy and have better revenue raising strategies than charging the worker bees.
I suppose after today I'll be spammed with offers of discount deals if I renew my subscription to Geni. Not gonna do it Geni. You've got my 2500 - static, no longer updated - searchable on google Geni profiles. Thanks for the memories.
