I've found some new documents in which people with the same surname of my family are mentioned. I like to add them to my geni data base.
I don't know their connection to my family yet, only that they were born or lived in the town or area my family lived in.
How can I create new profiles and leave them for the time being unattached to my tree?
Same issue - especially for people doing research on names in Jewish communities in E. Europe, one is often sure there is a connection but unsure exactly how until further research has found it. But to encourage that further research, the profiles need to be online somehow.
What I do is create the first profile as a sibling to yourself (or whoever, doesn't matter), then go into the relationships tab of the profile and remove the parents. This will disconnect that profile from the tree. Then you can build on it from there. You should then be able to search on it later in your managed profiles, view the profiles, and reconnect them when you figure it out (or create a duplicate profile or two and merge it).
That doesn't seem to work for me. The remove button is shaded so I can't click on it. Maybe because I'm only Geni Basic?
