I followed directions to locate the yellow arrows but they did not come out. What do I do to add a name connected to the name that is already on the tree?

The reason you would not see the yellow arrows next to the names on the tree to add more people is due to your subscription. When you log in to your Geni account there should be a blue strip at the top indicating whether you have exceeded the number of people you can add.
A basic member may add up to 100 people.
Basic accounts are free. Basic users can add up to 100 profiles to the tree and upload up to 1GB of photos, videos and documents (about 1,000 photos).
A Plus member may add up to 1,000 people.

And a Pro member may add unlimited number of people.

If this is not the case it could be that you need to change your tree view to standard and make sure your preference have the "Flip" nodes unchecked you will then be able to see the yellow arrows. Otherwise if you see a hover card there is an option towards the bottom that states "Add" to add another person.
