I don't know how to explain this any plainer than telling you exactly what I want to do!! If I find an ancestor who is related to someone that is already on my tree, how do I add that person without copying everything from their profile onto my tree? For instance I have an ancestor from 1586 but that is where it ends. I found a profile for that person's parents. Do I just copy everything under mother and father to that ancestor or is there a way to add it to my tree without going to all the trouble of copying? I just do not want to create merge issues by copying. Thank you for any help you can give me!!!

Lo You are a Pro, you can do merges. So - If this is 1586 everything should be Public, and probably the Profiles you found are connected to the Big Tree -
If you have an ancestor from 1586 - call him ProfileA - and you found a profile for that person's parents - possibility 1) ProfileA has a matching profile as child of these found profiles - so merge them! Possibility 2) ProfileA does not have a matching profile as child of these found profiles - so add one of his parents, basically no details - then merge it with the appropriate Profile.
If your question is how to do this when/if Geni is not suggesting the match -- In Tree View - on the Tree - see the box for your ProfileA - see the 3 choices 'edit tree more" - click on "more" - choose "Move this person" - will be put into little box - then go to the Profile you want to merge it with (for example, enter it in Search box, then go to Tree View) - then drag your ProfileA in the little box over to the Profile you want to merge it with - and you should then get the choice to say they are the same, you want to merge them. Hopefully, voila!
(if it turns out this was a separate Tree, then instead of merge going thru, message will be sent to manager of the other Profile saying merge was requested, and it will be a pending merge - I suggest in that case click "Contact manager" on theother Profile and send a message).

Robin Patton (Wilkinson) how can i accomplish this if i DON'T have a pro account and DON'T want to pay to have a pro account just for this function? how can i accomplish adding a spouse that already exists in another branch of my tree? my example is "josiah jonathan gregory (1870-1933)?

Jeff, Geni Curator In the tree view, select the "More" link on the profile and select "Move this Person". This will create a profile box on the right side of the screen. Now, search / navigate to the parents you've found in the tree and view them in Tree View. You should see your profile still on the right hand side. Drag it on top of one of the parents. A dialog should come up asking you the relationship (son / daughter). Select the relationship and it should connect the profile to the existing tree.
Here is an older video that shows it (although the bar on the side is now just a floating box) - starts about 50sec in.
