I recently received information from a long-lost cousin who has it written down that there are 2 generations between several of my ancestors that I have not previously added. How do I add these 2 generations without messing up the tree. I tried to add one as a son of one and try to merge but it got confusing because there are about 3 generations with the same name and it just got complicated. Is there another way to do this?

Jeff, Geni Curator So, are you saying that you accidentally skipped a couple generations and need to "insert" them? If so, I would start at top as you did, create the proper son. Then edit the incorrect son, relationships, and change the parent via the drop down. An alternative would be to use the "Move" option on the profile and drag the person to the correct spot (something like this http://help.geni.com/entries/469824-How-can-I-show-more-than-one-relationship-between-the-same-two-people-), then resolve the conflict and choose the correct parents. If you need any help or it gets messed up, feel free to send me a message and I'll assist. Jeff Gentes
