How about allowing us to list someone as deceased immediately? My cousin died today, my aunt passed away two months ago, and another cousin died a month ago. There are absolutely no provisions for listing someone as deceased. My grandma is listed as deceased if you actually open her file, but her icon doesn't show any dates. Shame on you!

Hi Robin - First, I want to offer my condolences on the recent deaths in your family.
I'm sorry that you're having troubles with the site. If the family member who passed away was a member of Geni and had their own Geni account, then you are correct, you won't have immediate access to mark them as deceased. You can, however, go to their profile and select 'Report' from the 'Actions' menu at the top right of the page and report the person to us as deceased and we will take care of changing that over as quickly as we can.
If the family member was not a member of Geni and they are inside your immediately family group (4th cousins or closer), then you should be able to edit their profile and mark them as deceased. Please let me know if you're having trouble doing this.
I believe that your one Grandmother isn't displaying dates on the tree view simply because her name is rather long and takes up the available space in her node on the tree. In other views on Geni, you should be able to see her birth and death dates without any trouble.

A follow up question. I have listed a family member as deceased and this is showing up in their profile, but email notifications are still being sent out on their birthday (which is very upsetting for many family members). How do i update the profile to make sure these notifications don't get sent out. Is there somewhere additional i should indicate the person is deceased?

Email notifications on birthdays should automatically stop after a person is marked deceased.
