My own personal Geni profile has the tightest privacy settings (as far as I can tell), yet a total stranger who is not linked to me via a family tree has just opted to follow me. How was this person able to find me, and then follow me? Thanks for your help.

Jeff, Geni Curator I believe all Geni users are searchable by other Geni users, though they probably can't see much if your profile is private. They may have also run into you in the revision history of a profiles changes, or if you are the manager or adder of a profile they are interested in. They likely saw some of your work on Geni and wanted to follow your activity (updates to Geni profiles). According to Geni "Following does not affect privacy in any way. Following a user or profile does not give you any additional access to profile information. A user who follows you does not get any additional access to your profile or other information."
