I am hoping this is an easy process - but my father started a family tree and invited me to join. I signed in, and all I really want to do is watch the tree he has built already without adding to the tree (for now) - can anoyne help me understand how I can view the tree he has started without a paid option?

You should be able to do that.. if you're not in "his" tree, you should have him add you, which would merge the profiles. You could also have him add you to his family group, which would allow you to see it regardless of if you're in his tree.
Kunal: When you are signed in (logged in) to Geni, at the top of the window are the words "Home Tree Family Research". Click the word "Tree". If you don't see your father, then you are not really yet 'connected' to him, and you need to do a little more work to get 'connected' (as Jeff outlined in his reply).
Also, if you view your father's profile and then click the "Follow" button you will then get notices about his activities; that's another way to "watch" him grow your family tree.
