I'm a longtime member and - like many - was disappointed and dismayed at the switch to a pay site some time back. That said, I don't mind delving in every now and then. It would probably be a more regular hobby, but I am a school teacher and really don't have the time for 9+ months of the year. I would pay $10, $15, or even $20 for a month of pro access, knowing I could reconnect with it again next summer. However, because of the pricing structure to the memberships, Geni gets $0 from me. I won't pay for an annual membership when I'm only able to use the site 1 or 2 months a year.

  The easy question you need to ask yourself: Do I really need Pro?
  There is no limits in adding profiles anymore and you can still merge profiles if you initiate collaboration with the other profile managers and you can ask a Pro collaborator to help you when needed.
  The paywall you will meet most is the need for a MyHeritage data subscription, which probably will bring you most value if you still are in the research stage. Being Pro does not help for that since MyHeritage is a different website.

  Another aspect of being Pro is of course that it helps keeping this site up and running. Your choice.

  I apologize for the very late reply, but I think this thread is still relevant.

  Bjorn makes some very good points. But what Bjorn and, more importantly, Geni should consider, is how many of their non-paying customers would be willing to pay more if the payment plan was more flexible, vs how many of their paying clients would pay less, and by how much. I've seen the monthly fee request repeated here several times, and I know from my own family that there are a lot of light users who would gladly pay for occasional use of premium features if it didn't cost them a full year's subscription fee. Therefore, I think it's very likely that with a good payment plan Geni can increase their revenue, which would benefit both Geni and the users. Here's an example plan that might work well:

  - Tier 1: Pay-per-use: $3 to view a single search result, $5 to view a single tree match / record match / smart match.

  - Tier 2: Monthly subscription: $15/mo, unlimited access to search results and matches.

  - Tier 3: Yearly subscription: $119.40/yr ($9.95/mo), unlimited access to search results and matches.

  Tier 1 would make the most sense for light users. Once a user needs to view more than 3 matches or 5 search results per month, Tier 2 becomes cheaper. Finally, Tier 3 would allow a further 33% saving for heavy users.

  As a retiree on social security, I prefer a monthly plan, that I can use when I am actively working on the projects.

  I'm a Retiree also, I've been on the Geni Pro for a number of years, and I'm not on Geni everyday, so yearly subscription is very expensive for me.  Like another member on this topic, I too would also prefer a monthly plan, working on my  Ancestral Gaddang Tribe Project.  At my age of 87, having one good eye, I might not be able to continue with my project as I become older.  My 2nd cousin G.e.n.e.r.o.s.o. Velasco Bulan Lumicao and I are collaborators on my project. 

  This could be another topic.  Before that event in my life comes and I have to leave Geni, will it be possible to transfer all of my Profiles to my cousin G.e.n.e.r.o.s.o. Velasco Bulan Lumicao?
