So I got an email from Geni CEO, Noah Tutak, announcing that Geni is "joining the MyHeritage family". So "merging is now free" it says. Not so, when I attempted to merge files just now.
Still, congratulations on the progress and the fact that I can add unlimited family members is brilliant. And I look forward to the MyHeritage tools coming online. Thanks.

I excitedly logged in today after receiving Noah's message and was disappointed to find merging isn't free and still requires a pro account. Any ideas when this will match the message you're putting out? ;)
It is possible you may be confusing tree matches with merging. Tree matches are still a Pro feature. You should be able to merge profiles for free if you go to Requested Merges in the Merge Center, drag-and-drop in the tree, or do it manually by clicking 'Actions' on the profile and select 'Merge This Profile.' Will I be able to merge my existing MyHeritage tree into Geni?
Phillip, they don't plan to do any sort of automatic migrating of data in either direction. They would like to offer users the choice to migrate their data between sites if they'd like, and will be working on this project, but it will take some time. I expect in a shorter time frame, they'll re-enable GEDCOM imports with intelligence to prevent duplicate profile proliferation. When that happens, you could export your tree from MyHeritage and import it into Geni.
