I will briefly report an improvement opportunity. It is by the "display of residence" in Germany - accompanied with the viewing of the tree in german language. This message is directed primarily to the administrators and softwaredevelopers, to improve.
I am working on a family tree for a small village, published between the years 1500 and 1900, starting with our family, by researching the local microfilmed churche reports. And I want to implement the display of the people in this tree as complete and correct as possible.
However, the choice of locations (birth, baptism, marriage, death...) is only possible under the current municipal divisions, not according to the local government of e.g.100 years ago. This representation is confusing and not the truth or reality. Isn't there a possibility to input and save place names as free text, without the automatic assignment of a place? Some small villages, today part of a town, were not found from the system.
So as exampel someone was born 1770 in "Winkel, Gemeinde Rotenfels, Kreis Rastatt, Land Baden, Deutschland", the view of the automatic generated place name is "Gaggenau, Karlsruhe, Germany". That would be nearly right - if the person wuold be born after 1970. But before 1970 "Rotenfels" and it's village part "Winkel" wasn't part of "Gaggenau". And then and now the displaying "Karslruhe" ist also wrong, it must be designated "Rastatt". This shown information can confuse the researching genealogists and lead to wrong paths.
Thanks, Alex
