Merge complications - how to unmerge?

I got requests from people to merge a few profiles on my tree. These profiles had heaps of detail including photos. They're old. I worked hard on them through historians in the region. The people are now editing those profiles. One has had all his details removed and the other merge account is showing as the one who added the profile. I'm more than a little put out by this. 

I also want to save my tree, but it's now expanded to include a universe of characters I have zero interest in, as they aren't direct line - is there a way to save just my old tree as it was? The previously 'pro' feature came after the merge with other accounts. I've lost the plot completely on my tree :(

  You can't unmerge a profile, but the data and photos should not be gone.  We just have to go through data conflict and select the best data and select which photo to use for the profile.  Since you did a lot of work on it, it is likely we can make it a Master Profile for that person.  That's part of the collaborative nature - each person can contribute to make the tree as up to date and accurate as possible.  As for showing who added it, that goes to the first person that added the profile, but you will be listed as a manager and any discussions on the profile will go into your notifications.  So you can discuss the best course of action with your distant cousins.  Let me know the name or link to the profile and I'll do my best to make sure your data is best reflected.

  As for saving your tree, you should be able to go to Family, Share Your Tree (http://www.geni.com/family-tree/share).  Select the GEDCOM Export and choose the right export for you - looks like perhaps Ancestors.

  If you decide that a collaborative tree is not for you, we'd miss your contributions, but MyHeritage is better set up for isolated trees.
