the bad thind about this site is others manage profiles and curate and when they merge something to yours ,your no longer able to manage your own tree....cant change things and so forth, there os laws in this country that govern that/// its called privacy, when your profile is private it is meant to be kept private....i dont need someone else managing my tree or curating my ancestors.. not a one of thems last name is GALLUP read the name GALLUP..i wasnt even asked or warned for them to merge something into my tree . so when you hear from my lawyer in the next 72 hrs....lets see what your stocks do on wall street,
Robert, no one can merge an isolated tree into another tree without someone in that tree first giving permission to do so (not even curators). Any member in your tree can accept a merger. Once given, the tree is part of the world family tree. The goal is a single profile for each person, no duplicates - we work together to provide the most accurate and sourced profiles for those common ancestors. Obviously, every descendent of GALLUP doesn't have the name GALLUP - that doesn't make it any less their ancestor DNA wise, just because you have the surname. Privacy still applies to your family group and connecting your tree into the world tree doesn't change that. Your information is still private as defined in your profile settings. If you prefer an isolated tree, I suggest My Heritage. Geni is a collaborate world tree with privacy restrictions around your family group. Last thing, regarding the threats.. Geni is a private company and not traded on wall street. You can read their privacy policy here (http://www.geni.com/company/privacy).
Robert, I don't understand your comment that you're not able to manage your tree. Such a merger should not effect your ability to edit/add/expand on them. In fact, I see your recent edits to that tree.
I recalled being in this tree very recently (Captain John Gallup is my 10th GGF along with several other connections) and doing some merges that were pending/duplicates. Again, I can't merge a tree that is not already part of the tree, so I'm just removing duplicates, but I remember merging some of your profiles. You should be thankful... your tree was a incorrect mess. Dates didn't line up, incorrect parents... (such as Benjamin Gallup b1655 being the child of John Gallup b1646 and Elizabeth Harris b1654) - had to spend an hour fixing it. Would have been better for the tree to leave you disconnected. That said, it's possible with all the mess it was, that something didn't get put in the right place. Still working on it. I'd be happy to work with you on anything that needs fixing or research. I want it correct. Hatte Blejer is a curator in that tree with a lot of experience with the Gallup line, so she'd be a good resource to bring in if things don't look right.
While working on fixing some errors that I noticed, I'm finding many with your name on them. Altering names (http://www.geni.com/people/Nathaniel-Gallup-Sr/6000000002135468487#/tab/revision), altering easily verifiable birth dates that make no sense, such as (http://www.geni.com/people/John-Gallup/6000000001579339379#/tab/revision). I hope that you're just trying to fix something and went astray and not attempting to vandalize the tree, which you seem upset about being connected into. In both these cases, there were incorrect relationships that I've now fixed, so the dates and names fit properly. Send me a message if you have something that looks out of place and needs fixing.
Even your last addition to the tree (http://www.geni.com/people/Eliza-Gallup/6000000018864828148) you have being born (1681) after her child (1646). ??? Also removing the names of public profiles with multiple managers. Stop.. You can be blocked from editing if you continue this.
As a volunteer, I spent a nice part of the morning undoing the changes you made to the Kite tree. Thanks.. really enjoyed reverting stupid names and initials back to their proper names. Many of these profiles were not even managed by you or had multiple managers, public profiles from 1600-1800. It seems likely that the intent was malicious and I've notified other curators of this activity.
