I am a male caucasian. I think I may have African American ancestors four or five generations ago. What test do I need to find out for sure and what will it be able to tell me?

Jeff, Geni Curator My DNA knowledge is pretty weak (never done it myself), but I figured I'd try to give you some links that I hope will get you pointed in the right direction.
Based on the test details, it looks to me like the best test for determining ethnic heritage is the "Family Finder" and the more expensive "Comprehensive Genome". https://www.geni.com/dna-tests/family-finder?from_all=true
The Family Finder states: "Family Finder uses autosomal DNA (inherited from the mother and father, four grandparents, eight great-grandparents, etc.) to provide you a breakdown of your ethnic percentages and connect you with relatives descended from any of your ancestral lines within approximately the last 6 generations."
