I have a family tree built on Reunion 8 software.My new Operating System does not support the Reunion system. I'd like to upload the files to Geni. I know some of the data is already on file with Geni through postings by my relatives. However, I have additional data going back to the Middle Ages in England. I know that my GEDCOM files will duplicate previous entries to Geni, but a lot of it is new.
How do I submit my files to Geni?
You'd have to do it manually. GEDCOM files were killing us with duplication. They plan on creating a "smart" uploader, which would try to remove duplication, but there is no timeline on that. I'd be surprised if we didn't already have those profiles - it's not too often that I get into the 1700's without finding existing matches. Things just may need to be connected together. Is there no way to upload a GED file? It's a year later and tryping all this and uploading all the pictures is a pain. Any news?
Not yet - but one thing that could be done relatively quickly is to upload the GEDCOM to MyHeritage, then copy it over with SmartCopy: http://www.geni.com/projects/SmartCopy/18783
It currently only supports the SmartMatches from a MyHeritage tree, but I do plan to add support for directly copying a MyHeritage tree. It won't copy an entire GEDCOM though, else we're back to the duplication issue that caused us so much havoc to begin with. You'd have to copy it over one family at a time.
