Bjørn P. Brox Using a personal program on your PC and not an online site like Geni where the general goal is a shared tree where everyone contribute?

Jeff, Geni Curator First, It sounds like Geni may not be the best website for you and perhaps Geni's parent company MyHeritage may better fits your needs. While possible with new accounts to create an isolated tree, the goal of Geni is collaboration and the interconnectivity of the world tree. So you may be disappointed with the software which is designed to do the opposite of what it appears you want to do. MyHeritage.com, on the other hand, is build for isolated trees that you control. Now, it's not impossible to do what you're asking. If you've never invited anyone to your tree or merged, then your tree should be isolated and private, where only you can edit it. If you've invited others or merged, it gets a lot more difficult if not impossible (again - the software is designed for collaboration, not isolation). You can restrict child profiles you add in your account settings (http://www.geni.com/account_settings/managed_profiles), so that only you can edit them. Also, if there is a specific person you don't want editing, then you can block them http://www.geni.com/account_settings/blocked_users If there are specific public profiles that you want to "lock in" the correct sourced values, then you can request a curator, such as myself, lock the fields or the entire profile (but then only curators will be able to edit it). If there is a particular user that is vandalizing your tree with incorrect information, you can report that to the curators or Geni and we can review the edits and take action if necessary (such as suspending their account).
