Why can't I connect my ancestor to the correct father in another family tree?

You would think it would be easier to assign the correct parent to somebody! All I wanted to do was give Mary Scriven (Mosher) her proper father (Hugh Mosher, Jr., b 1726), and I couldn't unlink her from what I mistakenly had (Hugh Mosher, b. 1690. I tried everything I could think of. The drag and drop wasn't worth a damn, nor was chosing the correct parents. Program said I'd be splitting trees--I didn't want them joined to begin with!

I went in to get a wart removed, and I needed brain surgery?  Mistakes like mine must happen a lot, especially with old ancestors. Sometimes you miss a generation, as I just found out I did. Gotta be easier than this!

  You should be able to remove the bad parents from the relationship tab on her profile. You may get the Split the tree warning, just ignore it. Be sure to save after clicking on remove.

  Thanks for trying, Eldon, but no go, even trying to save over the Split Warning. I went back to the profile, hoping if I did something with the yellow triangle warning, assigned parents, I would be able to get it done. But program wouldn't even allow me to do that. I don't suppose you could just fix it, could you? I have Hugh Mosher Jr. in my Scriven group and in the Mosher group, both have Mary Scriven Mosher in them. Again, it just doesn't seem like it should be this hard.

  Thank you, Eldon. Obviously, your kung fu is better than mine! Or maybe I was still missing something I did wrong or didn't try. It's hard when the program rules won't allow you to do something. All I was trying to do was add another generation between Mary Scriven (Mosher) and Hugh Mosher (whom I thought was her father, but new info proved was her grandfather). I've liked Geni.com, and it gives me things (even the free version) WikiTree doesn't, but from what I've seen on my own and posts, it's a devil fixing things sometimes once you enter them. Whatever happened to all those X's in the uppoer right corner of profiles on the tree where we could Just delete a profile? Going forward, let me suggest some easy way to go back to a previous version (i.e., before the user tangled things up)--or at least make all profiles  easily deletable--unless of course, they don't belong to you. The difficulty in fixing things has been the main reason I'm not eager to to merges, which I know, is one of the points of your enterprise.

  The nice thing about Geni is that is dynamic and interactive as opposed to WikiTree. There is a long learning curve but you can always reach out for help by either posting on a discussion or starting a new discussion from a profile you have a problem with. We curators monitor them pretty closely and you will get a quicker response than you get by posting here. Glad I could help.
