Hi, I am starting my family tree and antering names I know are already in the Geni database... but when I type them into a field on the family tree, the names don't pop up... it's like I have to start from scratch, which I don't want to do. Can I tap into all the relationships that are already documented here? Thanks for your help.
Andrew, Don't enter people who are already in the database. That just causes unnecessary merge needs. If you find a person and want to add for example a sibling, child or spouse, on that profile click on View Tree then when you click on the person you will have the option to add spouse, child or parent if there are no parents. Don't use the add family as it doesn't enter names correctly. Be sure to add dates and locations if you have them

I have somehow removed profiles of mine from my tree, but I can still search the profiles up- is there a way to add existing profiles of my own?

Gillian, I'm not sure I understand your question, but if there are existing profiles on Geni and you'd like to connect into those existing profiles from your branch, then yes, we'd certainly like to do that. What you can do is create a small overlap in your tree, then we can merge the two trees together or we could just connect the two branches where they should meet.
All the profiles of my tree are in the database already! Hundreds of people. This because all the data on people who had lived in a certain area were inserted there and all my family has lived there since the 17th century. Could you please tell how I could use the existing profiles? I do not understand the instructions above. I would like to add at least the 204 people who are my direct ancestors.
