How does a GENi basic user change a profile of a family member to deceased

My uncle Henry Pflanz died Dec 13, 2013. 

I am trying to help my family change his status to deceased, and to stop his birthday announcements from going out to all of our family.

I am surprised that while I am allowed to change many elements of his personal profile, I am not able to add his date of death (change status to deceased) and to turn off his birthday announcements to family members..

I am also dismayed that I am not able to submit trouble tickets or requests, and that the only screen options available to me are to join GENi Pro. I was a member of GENi Plus when that was available.

  It is strange that there is no obvious way to record a family member's death.

  If the person's profile is claimed, then you have to report them as deceased via the actions menu.  See: http://help.geni.com/entries/499442-How-can-I-update-the-profile-for-someone-who-is-deceased-

  Sorry, but the "Died" field is not showing up in the profile, so telling us "The obvious way - Edit Profile?" is not very helpful.

  John, did you have a chance to review the link I included?  It describes what to do when you can't edit the profile.  "... navigate to their profile page, click "Actions" and select "Report." Choose "Deceased" from the drop down and please provide a brief comment. Lastly, click "Submit."   Otherwise, perhaps you can reference the person you're having problems with and we can be more specific as to the reason and what to do.

  There is also the possibility of a Zombie profile - long deceased, not claimed.  You can report those here: http://www.geni.com/discussions/142109

  It's odd some profiles show the status living or deceased.  But others don't?  So not sure how to change the status for a profile I manage?

  If a profile is claimed (user manages their own profile), you will not be able to change their living status by editing their profile.  If they are deceased, you have to report the profile as such by following these instructions: http://help.geni.com/entries/20470882-How-do-I-report-a-profile-as-Deceased-

  It's easy to see the status in tree view if you enable the Preference option "Mark Deceased" as it puts a black ribbon on the profile picture.

  I've tried to report several people as deceased as mentioned in the tutorial. Even provided link to the person's obituary. But I always get a notification that I did it wrong without any information what exactly I did wrong.

  Patrick, since you're a pro member, I'd suggest filing a support ticket with Geni.  The only thing we might be able to do is to try to report them ourselves and hope for a different result (maybe it's a web browser issue or something).  I'm not aware of any bugs in the reporting process, but putting in a ticket should start a process where Geni can either address the reporting issue or mark those profiles as deceased.
