Yes - you can use most of the site without needing a MyHeritage account. You can then upload records to Geni through the "Sources" tab or "Documents". The part of Geni that involves MyHeritage is the Data Subscription, which is for the Record and Smart Matches that attempts to bring the data to you (similar to the shaky Ancestry leaf). http://help.geni.com/forums/21882243-Record-Matches-Smart-Matches-
Why do I receive a lot of info/references by email through, only to find that they are all registered in a Company called My heritage, who want to charge me to release that information ...In that case what do I need Geni for. could I not just subscribe to My Heritage.. and save the Geni membership ...???
Niels-Erik, MyHeritage is Geni's parent company. They both offer online family tree software, but Geni's focus is a shared collaborative world tree, where MyHeritage is an isolated tree.

Along with software for building a family tree, MyHeritage additionally offers methods of researching your ancestors. Geni does not independently offer research, relying on their parent company MyHeritage to provide that for Geni customers and integrating that research the Geni site. Research (records) is a separate data subscription on both Geni and MyHeritage from the family tree software.
Geni's membership (Pro) offers users enhanced searching on Geni, Tree matches, support, storage. So what subscription you purchase (if you purchase one) will depend on your needs. If you're looking for research and viewing records, then a MyHeritage data subscription is best. If you're looking to be a power user in the world tree, find duplicates in your tree and merge them with existing branches, then Geni's Pro subscription is a better fit.
Hi ...In that case I should have signed up with MyHeritage in stead of Geni. Can I move my tre from Geni to MyHeritage...???..

Sure, here are the instructions for exporting your tree to GEDCOM. You can then import it into MyHeritage.

What is Gedcom ???...
