Does Geni notify people when others leave them messages?

If I leave a message in a guest book or send the person an email through Geni, are they notified they have a message or do they have to log onto the Geni website to see someone is leaving them messages?

They usually get notify, but this is configurable under http://www.geni.com/account_settings/notifications
