I have a problem with the same individual on two separate trees

I would like to merge two trees (one is my own) but since there seems to be a problem with how the system is handling my relationship to the other tree, I think it would possibly be a bad idea to do so.

This is the profile for Yetta Mazursky (Auerbach), and it's just an example of how the system is not correctly identifying my relationship to people in the "other" tree.

Yetta Mazursky (Auerbach) in my tree: Yetta Mazursky (Auerbach) is your second great aunt.

Yetta Mazursky (Auerbach) in the other tree: Yetta Mazursky (Auerbach) is your first cousin twice removed's husband's aunt's husband's sister's husband's niece's husband's brother's wife's uncle's wife's first cousin once removed's husband's second great granddaughter's ex-husband's great grandmother.

I don't want to merge these trees because I'm concerned that my relationships to these people will be wrecked.

Please advise.

  The relationship is being calculated based on your current relationship to each profile.  Both are connected to the world tree, so in your tree, she's your second great aunt, but your relationship to the duplicate is your "first cousin...".  Once you merge the two, the path will show the most direct relationship, your second great aunt.  That duplicate can't show you the real relationship, because currently that relationship doesn't exist in the tree for that profile.  The only connection between you and that duplicate is the distant one.  So, yes - go forth and merge.  The direct relationship will be preserved. :)  Let me know if you need any assistance resolving the conflicts that will arise after the merge (as you'll have to merge the surrounding profiles as well).
