Jeff, Geni Curator The security code is a system called CAPTCHA. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAPTCHA
It is a program that protects websites against bots by generating and grading tests that humans can pass but current computer programs cannot. For example, humans can read distorted text like "hat", but current computer programs can't. This helps prevent automated SPAM from being sent to Geni users - it's making sure you're human. :)

Robert Bruce McDonald, Jr. I tried to add a comment on an ancestor's record and it was rejected but the space where the CAPTCHA was supposed to be was blank. There was nothing after "Security Code."

Jeff, Geni Curator If you're using any script blocking software in your web browser, that can sometimes cause it not to display.

Laurel Bauer So what can one do when the CAPTCHA does not appear? I don't think it's script blocking software as was suggested because I have been on many other sites where the CAPTCHA does appear.
