Private or Public profile indicator

When I change a profile from public to private via the field into the profile, nothing happens, so if a strange person search via google he will have access to the profile,  doesnt matter if the indicator is on private profile, Is that indicator working correctly ? or it is because the geni search indexes are updated from time to time (Weekly, every 10 days, every month). My problem is that the strange person can reach information of the family of the profile owner even to the children information.
